The Invictus Games, an international para-sports festival that exclusively features athletes who have been injured in the line of duty, are coming to Germany for the first time. They will be held in Düsseldorf from September 9 to 16, 2023. More than 500 participants from 21 nations are expected to take part.

The competitions do not focus solely on sporting goals. They also express the personal successes of the competitors in the rehabilitation process and are intended to initiate a social discourse about the achievements of women and men in the armed forces. Accordingly, the Games' motto is "A Home for Respect."

The 6th Invictus Games will begin with an opening ceremony featuring a multimedia show, music, dance and speeches. Competitions will then be held in ten types of sports, ranging from wheelchair rugby to shot put and discus, running events and long jump to archery and table tennis.

The majority of the games take place in the 55,000-seat “Merkur Games Arena”. This arena, the neighboring sports park and the public pool “Rheinbad Düsseldorf” form the "Invictus Games Park". In addition to the sports competitions, the program also includes cultural events and activities.

The patron of the Invictus Games is the British Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, who served several times as a soldier in Afghanistan between 2007 and 2013 and who initiated the Games in 2014.
